Traveling The Intercoastal Waterway With
Ed & Cindy Doyle
Hello all Adventure Craft (AC) current and potential owners! We are Col. Edward T. (USAF Retired) & Cindy Doyle, both born and raised near the coast and both avid & life-long water buffs. Cindy and I are both retired now and still on the water here in the Florida Panhandle, across from Destin on the intercoastal waterway (ICW) - which runs from Texas to the west coast of Florida. We love our 2005 Adventure Craft! It docks on a lift in our back yard in Sunset Cove-Niceville, right off of Choctawhatchee Bay - midway between Pensacola and Panama City Beach. Our longest Adventure Craft trip has been 7+days, but we take a lot of daily and overnighters around the bay, ICW, and occasionally in the Gulf of Mexico. Normally, we enjoy one of the dock side brunches on weekends. Cindy and I have always been sailors until we acquired the Adventure Craft. We sold our last sailboat last year - too much work for us “old wrinklies.” I just turned 70 this year...
We normally cruise around at 10 knots and almost always ride up on the bridge;
especially if it’s 2-3 foot water, because you have to close the front doors to avoid any spray getting inside – plus the view /breeze in your face makes for a great time.
This boat has everything one could ask for: comfort, view, easy maintenance
& cleaning, safety, relaxation - and just plain fun! We take our Adventure Craft out in medium chop, 2-4 foot water and it cuts through the water with its tri-hull design just like a sailboat. Also, if you approach all the rollers at a 45 degree angle - with its hull design - there is minimal rocking. Three to four adult couples can have a great time and be comfortable on this boat whether it be a dress up night at a dock side restaurant or a boatload of kids that can dive of the top deck or get pulled around in a tube, board, or ski’s. We have the 135 HP Honda outboard and its been perfect since 2005. The motor is very good on gas and it will get you out of a storm at 20 knots if needed.
We keep our AC fully loaded (around 7800+ lbs) and ready to go with some nonperishable food/wine, bed linens, towels, cookware, grills, hotplates, TV, beach clothes, fishing gear, medicines/sun lotions, personal shower/bath items, lawn chairs (we keep two chairs topside when 2+ couples want to ride on the flybridge.) We do not believe in “ Bag Drags” every time we go out. All we normally pack is our photo id’s, wallets, dressy clothes (if needed), and a rollaway cooler for perishable food/drinks (keeps them frozen for 8-10 days). We added some shelving and wine racks above the drapes, but there is plenty of storage space for a week+ trip onboard. Cindy and I highly recommend the Adventure Craft! They fit the bill not only for a fun day or week out with nature, but also act as your vacation home and also as your second home - qualify for numerous income tax breaks! Enjoy and be safe out there. Happy Cruising!
